Gray Crawford: Opening to the Other - Relationships in Progression

Saturday Workshop:

The secondary progressed chart is a powerful astrology technique that penetrates into the evolving quality of the natal chart across time. We know that as time passes so do our desires for relationship transform. This workshop will explore how changes in our secondary progressed chart reveal insight into how we are opening to the relationships of our life in new ways.  This workshop will both instruct as well as give space for participants to actively gain deeper understanding into how planets shifting signs and houses through progressions reflect the changes we experience in all of our diverse relationships.  We will also explore how the changes in the interpersonal dynamics within long-term relationships can be seen in the interplay between the changes in the progressed charts of each partner.

Please bring a copy of your natal chart and your current secondary progressed chart to the workshop.

Gray Crawford: Our Astrological Narratives in Relationship

Understanding relationship dynamics is one of the primary reasons people delve deeper into astrology. Whether we desire to heal our own relationships or want to help clients gain insight into their relationships, a fundamental skill is discerning the relational narratives found in the natal chart. Once we become aware of the relationship story found in our birth chart, we arrive at a deeper understanding for why patterns continue to resurface in relationships and why certain types of partners appear in our lives. In this talk Gray Crawford will share methods for how to distill the diverse elements of astrology charts into a coherent relationship story that reveals why we have been engaging in the types of relationships we have been, as well as how our astrological narrative continues to evolve as our relationships change. This talk will also reflect upon how to effectively use synastry and composite techniques in astrology.

12 - 12:45  The Moon’s Nodes and a Total Solar Eclipse Stimulate Changes with Mark Dodich

After 1½ years of spiritual destiny nodes passing through hard-working Virgo and sleepy Pisces, aren’t you ready for an enthusiastic change of pace? Join us to learn how to take advantage of the nodes moving into heart opening Leo and friendly Aquarius this spring. Add to that a rare total solar eclipse in fun-loving Leo coming in August, and you have a formula for coming out of the humble background to live life on a full and creative level. All are welcome. You don’t need to be an astrologer to gain insight into the next 1½ years of your life.

1 - 1:45  The Prodigal Spirit and Creative Vitality of Jupiter and Uranus with Gray Crawford

The full phase opposition between Jupiter and Uranus we experience throughout 2017 has consistently brought liberating breakthroughs amid the death of old forms in world history.  The shattering and dissolution of old paradigms is especially resonant this year, as the Jupiter and Uranus opposition is occurring within waning cycles of release between Jupiter and Saturn with Neptune and Pluto.  We will explore historical and current correlations with the Jupiter and Uranus cycle, including their current placements in Libra and Aries as well as the eventual shift of Jupiter into Scorpio and Uranus into Taurus in the year ahead.

2 - 2:45  Mega-Manifestation of Zeitgeist with Andrea Gehrz

How do the upcoming year's transits affect us, and how can we optimize for our potentials, while remediating potentially difficult transits? In this lecture, we'll discuss survival techniques as well as the most beneficial ways to capitalize on opportune transits.

3 - 3:45  Panel Discussion moderated by Melanie Gurley

Group discussion with the day's speakers about how their transits and the astrological themes beyond 2017 impact one another and us as individuals.

Eric Meyers: The Astrological Biorhythm: Personal Explorations

Saturday Workshop:

Building from the material presented at the lecture on Friday 4/21, the application to participants' charts will be the focus of the Saturday workshop. We'll be examining both the progressed Moon's cyclical rhythm, as well as parallels and contraparallels, for each participant. Knowing your current season provides insightful and helpful information to navigate the inevitable ups and downs. In this workshop, we'll clarify the current seasonal position, as well as reviewing the peaks and valleys of yesteryear. We'll arrive at a remarkable spiritual perspective to the unfolding of life, which empowers us to live in accordance with nature. Parallels and contraparallels are not obvious in our usual view of charts. This workshop will also bring clarity to this dimension to see more ways in which the planets are in dialogue.

Eric Meyers: The Astrological Biorhythm - The Progressed Moon by Declination

In addition to the familiar cyclical motion around the chart, we move through another dimension. Declination reveals the vertical dimension of height and depth. In this lecture, we'll review the motion through the seasons: Cancer (summer) is at the northernmost declination, and Capricorn (winter) is at the southernmost. In particular, we'll follow the Progressed Moon as it rises and falls in a 28 year cycle, spending 7 years in each "season." The dimension of declination provides indispensable insight to our evolution as we all go through the peaks and valleys of life.

Saturday Workshop:

Elections form the branch of astrology that focuses on selecting ideal times for the big decisions in our lives - when to open that bookstore, when to sign the lease on that new car, even when to cut your hair to increase or decrease growth - to avoid unnecessary troubles. In this talk we will explore the guiding principles of electional astrology, complete with example charts and practical exercises. The techniques are simple and straightforward once understood and will better equip any practicing astrologer in their future elections. Wade Caves: The Aries Ingress - Prophecies of the Mundane Astrologer

Friday Night Lecture:

Mundane astrology - or, the astrology of the world - was anciently held to be astrology's pinnacle and most noble application. Employing techniques like the assessment of Saturn/Jupiter conjunctions, comets and eclipses, and Aries ingresses, this branch is quite distinct and unique. This talk explores the historical approach to annual Aries ingresses and the techniques astrologers applied to these charts to forecast the future for their respective king and country. In addition to historical charts, we will also take a look at the Aries ingress for 2017, set for Washington, D.C., and assess key take-aways that better inform us on the astrological year ahead.

Deborah Norton-Kertson: The Uranus/Eris Conjunction in Aries

Friday Night Lecture:

Most would agree that 2016 is a year for the record books. The amount of fear, anxiety, and intensity currently being experienced in the collective is unprecedented in recent history. This year we have entered into a Uranus/Eris conjunction in Aries, an astrological cycle that occurs only every 500 years. So just what energies are in play here? In this lecture we will discuss the energetic vibrations of revolutionary Uranus and chaotic Eris. Just what can we expect from them as they continue to dance in Aries, the sign of the warrior, culminating in their next conjunction in March of 2017? We will look at their past conjunctions to give us insights into what surprises are yet to come.

Gary Lorentzen: A Life in Progress - The Secondary Progressed Lunation Cycle

Friday Lecture:

We are all born in a particular Sun/Moon phase with a specific angle or aspect between them. The prenatal New Moon tells us our genetic and/or karmic point of departure for our lives. But we are all a ‘work in progress.’ The Sun/Moon phase, aspect, sign and house positions tell us how, why, where and with what challenges we need to move through life. The Secondary Progressed Sun/Moon relationship shows us our personal progress and development as we mature and experience ourselves in the world.

In this lecture, Gary will outline the meaning of the progressed lunation cycle in its phases and aspects, and provide chart examples for the significance of the Secondary Progressed New Moon to Full Moon and back to New Moon in people’s lives.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Lecture ends around 9:30 p.m.
Location: 4312 SE Stark St, Portland 97215 (Friend's Meeting House)

Gary's Bio:

Gary Lorentzen has been a practicing astrologer since 1972. He taught Astrology at the old Beltane Books and Metaphysical Center and the Astrology Center of the Northwest in Seattle in the 1970s and 1980s. He has been the president of both the Washington State and the Oregon Astrological Associations. He was on the Board of Directors for Kepler College for twelve years responsible for the development of the curriculum and instructional designs and negotiating with the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board for approval of Kepler’s B.A. in Astrological Studies. In 1995 Gary was selected to lecture on astrological education at the World Congress of Astrological Associations in Lucerne, Switzerland. In the last twenty-five years, Gary has focused mostly on Mundane and Astro-History, and has published numerous articles and an on-line book, “The Time of the Fishes: An Astrological Critique of the Piscean Age.” He has degrees in Buddhist Studies, History, German and a graduate degree in Medieval Germanic Linguistics.

Steve Wolfson: Chart Interpretation - Synthesizing Archetypes, an Experiential Workshop

Saturday Workshop:

One place many seem to find difficult in astrology is learning to combine the many symbols in a chart.

As example, "what does it mean with South Node is 4th house Virgo, Mars in Aquarius in the 9th house? How do I combine Moon (4 th/ SN), Virgo, Mars, Sagittarius, 9 th house, Aquarius, to understand the meaning of that?"

We will explore, from an Evolutionary Astrology perspective, combining chart symbols and placements into an in depth analysis and interpretation. We'll work with charts volunteered by participants. With open group discussion, we'll step by step build a collective interpretation. Along the way we'll have time for general questions too.

Steve Wolfson: Chiron Conjunct South Node and Neptune, Squaring Saturn - Our Next Steps in Healing

Friday Lecture:

Powerful transformative energies are upon us. As chunks of the known break off, no longer working, the unknown approaches at a rapid pace. The Current of Life is directing us from what no longer works, to our future. Our collective survival requires cooperation, appreciation, and honoring of self and all beings as unique expressions of one Essence. Along this journey, our unresolved wounds necessarily bubble up. We feel this now in our personal and collective lives.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer, represents our deepest wounds. These Chiron transits are our friends. They help us become aware of places within we don't see, places that shape our world view and have now become places that no longer serve. Through embracing these places, we learn to protect what we used to neglect and reject. We learn that whatever we feel, it is always only coming up for healing.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Lecture ends around 9:30 p.m.

Naomi Bennett: Reliable Predictions

Saturday Workshop:

Using Transits, Declinations and OOB (Out of Bounds) Planets and Planetary Nodes

Declinations have been little used in astrology but these techniques can improve astrology’s ability to uncover extreme characteristics and events that regular aspects just don’t identify. OOB planets have been shown to be a factor in mental illness and depression. The use of heliocentric planetary nodes are major contributors in analysis that modify character and predictions that should be added to an astrologer’s toolbox.

Kristin Fontana: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul

Saturday Workshop:

A workshop utilizing the Pluto paradigm and bringing your Soul's Desires to light!

Kristin is offering a workshop practicing the EA Pluto paradigm, focusing on Pluto, the Nodes and their rulers, to uncover past life dynamics, the Soul's intentions for this life, as well as the destiny for the Soul moving forward. A special edition to this workshop, for practicing the paradigm, we will be the utilization of music with specific song lyrics for the attendees to feel, versus think, through the Soul story and then generate a chart that reflects the lyrics and the music heard. Mars, the lead point in your evolution stations retrograde in Sagittarius the day of this workshop. Mars is the younger brother to Pluto, and Mars takes the unconscious desires of the Soul, and makes them come to life. To wrap up and to send you off with a personal focus, we will drop in the Mars Rx transit for all attendees in your personal chart, to reveal next steps to facilitate the evolutionary journey for your Soul.

Kristin Fontana: Mars Retrograde in Sagittarius ~ Recover the Root of your Nature!

Friday Night Lecture:

Mars stations Retrograde this weekend for ten weeks, and as it does, all of your Soul's deepest desires surface and come clearly into feeling view. Mars naturally wants to move, it governs action and speed. A retrograde motion for this warrior planet creates an inversion of energy that pulls the focus inward, versus the instinct to move out. A check and filter will be in place, not allowing you to take one step unless it is felt all the way through. Jupiter, the ruler for Mars in Sagittarius will also be retrograde, along with Saturn in Sagittarius, equaling a triple Sagittarian push to return to the most honest version of you. The retrograde signature 'quickens' the evolutionary process via progressive individuation, thereby removing layers of conditioning, so you can liberate from the past and evolve forward. Kristin will discuss the impact of Mars retrograde in Sagittarius, as well Jupiter and Saturn. She will also share the significance of a natal retrograde signature, undoubtedly equaling a destined lifetime for uncovering the root of one's individual nature.

Amy Herring: The Astrological Life Cycle

Saturday Workshop

Life’s milestones can include things like our first job, getting married, graduating, or having children; yet, some of life’s most pivotal milestones aren’t punctuated by certificates or ceremonies but by planetary cycles. If life were a novel, then the planetary cycles point out major plot points in our story.

Our unique birth charts point the way to developing our individuality, and as the planets move, we develop and change in our own time and pace. Yet, while the timing of key events in our lives may be just as individual as we are, we all experience peak points of planetary energy at the same ages. In this way, the astrological life cycle of human development unfolds. We can see these pivotal times approaching from the moment of birth through the tracking of the planetary cycles.

In this workshop we’ll discuss planetary cycles: what they are, how to recognize their peak points and work with them practically in your life. We’ll walk through example charts and hear from participants that wish to share their real-life stories that unfolded at the time. Come prepared to work with your own chart!

Amy's Bio:

I have been a professional astrologer since 1995. Although self-taught by voraciously reading many great books (my favorites include works by Steven Arroyo, Steven Forrest, Alan Oken—the list goes on) I formalized my study with Steven Forrest, graduating from his Astrology Apprenticeship program with his high, personal recommendation in 2006. My focus is on the psycho-spiritual applications of astrology.

The secondary progressed moon has long been a favorite topic of mine, so I wrote my first book about it: Astrology of the Moon: an Illuminating Journey Through the Signs and Houses, which was published by Llewellyn in 2010. My second book combines a focused and detailed overview of astrology’s components and some of my favorite techniques in approaching the interpretation of a natal chart, titled: Essential Astrology: Everything You Need to Know to Interpret Your Natal Chart, is available in March 2016.

I love teaching and have an ongoing list of students I tutor. I have lectured about astrology at venues such as the Northwest Astrological Conference and Washington State Astrologer's Association, and at various astrological associations in the western United States. You can find me on the web at http://heavenlytruth.com, and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/Heavenly.Truth.

Amy Herring: Planetary Mischief in Midlife

Friday lecture

“Midlife crisis” is a household phrase in western culture that immediately conjuring up images of balding, middle-aged men in red sports cars trying to recapture their youth. This stereotype has become comical--either sadly ridiculous when being lived out in front of our eyes or just downright inaccurate when it comes to the personal reality of the experience. Is there more to it than that? What lies at the heart of the midlife crisis and does it truly exist?

Groundbreaking psychologist and friend of astrology, Carl Jung, said the midlife transition marks the beginning of the second half of life, when a mental transformation occurs. Jung’s own midlife transformation was quite profound, seeming to border on the edge of madness at times, but also a period of his life from which most of his richest work grew.

A number of aspects occur during the period of our lives broadly defined as ‘midlife’. In this lecture, we’ll explore the astrology of the mid-life transition against the backdrop of Jungian theory and the astrological events that happen to us all during this time, with chart examples to see midlife in action. We’ll also look at strategies for helping clients through this transition.

Stephanie Austin: Playing with the Planets

Saturday workshop

Our birth chart can be seen as a script, with the planets as the actors, the signs as their costumes, and the house their stage settings. This afternoon we will dialogue with the planets and their aspects, both natal and by transit. We’ll start with the current outer planet placements, and then explore the aspects most relevant to the group. There will be a huge ‘chart’ on the floor, where we can experience the power of the archetypes and sacred geometry generated by the astrological mandala. A few props will help distinguish which planets are involved; if there is a particular planet or aspect you’d like to explore, bring something that symbolizes it for you as well as a copy of your chart. You can take on a role yourself, and/or watch others play out the dynamics. Either way, profound insights often occur as we experience the energies of the planets in a playful, embodied manner.

Stephanie's Bio:

My initiation into astrology came in the midst of a huge life change. After traveling for five months in Asia, I enrolled in a Consciousness Studies masters degree program at JKFU in 1984. A year later I had my first astrology reading, switched careers, and became a full time astrological counselor, teacher, and writer by 1993.

I began studying astrology by observing how the charts of friends, family, and anyone with whom I crossed paths, correlated with my experience of them. Watching transits on a daily basis honed my perception to the point when I could feel the rising sign or Moon change signs within a few minutes of their ingress. Classes with Greg Bogart, who had been a student of Dane Rudhyar, and Steven Forrest’s evolutionary approach were also important influences, as well as many years of inner work via Primal therapy, Rosenwork, Aikido, Expressive Arts, A Course in Miracles, Buddhism, Sufism, Shamanism, practitioner trainings at the California Flower Essence Society, and Leslie Temple Thurston’s four year teacher training program.

I specialize in life purpose, career, and relationship readings, and enjoy offering private tutoring as well. I write the New and Full Moon column for the Mt. Astrologer Magazine, and a more extensive version, emailed just before each new and full moon. I have taught classes, workshops, and lectured for various groups since 1988, and have two eBooks, EcoAstrology: Finding Our Way Home, and Life After Twinkies: A Holistic Guide to Dietary Change. For more information on my sessions, tutorials, updates, and ebooks, visit my website, www.EcoAstrology.com.

Stephanie Austin: Embodying the Planets

Friday lecture

Everything is connected. Perhaps astrology's greatest gift is this reminder -- that we are not alone, not separate, not adrift in a meaningless universe. Planets symbolize the various components and functions of our psyche. They provide information as to how to integrate seemingly conflicting aspects of our personality and life path. By identifying and dialoging with the different parts of our psyche and their drives, we become aware of our patterns and assumptions. We are able to see beyond our social programming and fulfill our divine potential. This evening we’ll explore the archetypal code of each planet, and how to embody their gifts.
